We have been so overwhelmed by the support that we have received from SANDS and Tommy’s over the past year. We’ve been listened to, cared for and supported through it all. We all know how good it feels to feel taken care of, even more so when you feel so covered and heard, in the midst of the hardest season.
SANDS have been with us since the very moment we lost Selah. The bereavement midwives, who work with the charity, were immediately by our sides as we faced the early days, the days following and the weeks and months, up to the present. They cried with us, celebrated Selah with us, loved our families and friends who came to visit, came to Selah’s celebration service, visited us at home day after day and always checked in to see how we were doing, and still do. It amazed Luke and I how known and loved we felt by these midwives and by SANDS charity directors and the wider support network. Incredible healing began to take place in us because of these stunning people, who made sure we were protected at the most vulnerable time.
Tommy’s were a charity I got connected with through a friend of mine. Tommy’s have offered so much support both personally and professionally. They have come along beside us, ready to answer any questions we’ve had, and have been available to us in any way we have needed or wanted. They pioneer extensive research into baby loss and are doing incredible work to see a change in the daunting statistics, which we currently see.
These charities are both so dear to our hearts. Because of the care they have given, we feel we have been able to grieve well, without avoiding any part of it. Throughout this process, we’ve had professionals who have become friends.
We have committed to fundraise for both of these charities. We have already raised so much money for SANDS this past year and we are currently planning lots of fundraising events for 2019.
